  • Get an accurate heart rate reading whether you’re working, resting, or training right at your wrist without the fuss of a chest strap
  • Tap into extended physiological metrics and advanced running dynamics that can help improve your form and overall performance, such as lactate threshold – a thorough analysis of pace and heart rate that determines the point where your muscles start to rapidly fatigue, performance condition – which compares your real-time condition to your average fitness levels, cadence – your number of steps per minute and stride length – that shows your stride length in real time
  • Pair any of the Fenix 5 series with a compatible heart rate chest strap, such as the HRM Run to access your Vertical oscillation and ratio – the degree of 'bounce' in your running motion and the benefit ratio to stride length, ground contact time and balance – shows how much time your foot is on the ground rather than in flight and last – but not least – your Stress score – which is the measurement of your heart rate variability while standing still
  • Get “lost” in your adventure without really losing track of where you are, thanks to the built-in 3-axis compass, gyroscope and barometric altimeter, plus GPS AND GLONASS capability, so you can train in more challenging or remote terrain
  • A stainless steel bezel, buttons and rear case give you the rugged durability you need while you’re training hard or exploring the outdoors
  • Convenient at-a-glance training stats for each preloaded activity profile
  • Customize your watch with free downloadable faces and apps from Connect IQ and use Garmin’s Face-It to add make your favorite image the true “center piece” of your watch face
  • Easily swap out your band to match your mood or destination; choose from a wide range of colorful, sporty or sophisticated QuickFit bands
  • Stay in touch with the real world thanks to smart notifications that keep you in the know
  • Spotify compatibility is exclusive to Plus series

  • Beyond their running functions, fenix 5 watches also offer special feature sets to help with swim training, skiing, golfing and paddle sports, including stand-up paddle boarding and rowing

  • Ski/Board mode puts speed, distance, vertical drop and an automatic run counter (with Auto Pause for the lift line) and more at your fingertips
  • Track your stroke count, stroke rate and even distance per stroke while you’re cruising the flats with paddle sports mode
  • Golf mode gives you yardage to the front, back and middle of the green for any single course you’ve downloaded from Garmin Connect – and also adds enhancements such as stat tracking (fairways hit, etc.), Green View, AutoShot detection and auto measure

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, and in fact, you’ll want to pair your fenix 5 model with a chest strap to see more advanced running dynamics as well. Additionally, pairing your fenix 5 (or 5s/5X) with either the HRM-Swim or HTM-TRI while you’re swimming strap will show you your underwater heart rate. If you plan on using your fenix 5 to train for a triathlon or for cross-training with swimming, we highly recommend going with the fenix 5 performer bundle, which includes the Garmin HRM-TRI.

Just the sapphire units are WiFi enabled (sapphire styles available on all three fenix 5 models, though note that 5X models are sapphire only and therefore WiFI by default). If you choose a fenix 5 non-sapphire model, you can still get software updates via Bluetooth paired with the Garmin Connect app on your smartphone. You also have the ability to connect fenix 5 directly to your computer.

Yes! fenix 5 was designed for swimming, including open water. We recommend pairing your fenix 5 with either the HRM-TRI or the HRM-SWIM for underwater heart rate and more.

If you’re considering fenix 5 for mapping features, you’ll want to turn your attention to the 5X, which is the only fenix 5 model equipped with 16GB of topographical & cycling maps, in addition to golf courses. Note that these maps are incredibly useful in the sense that they also contain points of interest, such as nearby food & drink, tourist destinations, gas stations, etc., with turn-by-turn navigation.

Aside from having the option of a smaller size (fenix 5S), a larger display (fenix 5 and fenix 5X) and interchangeable bands (all fenix 5 models), there are several other key differences that we cover in one of our recent blogs. Read more here:
